"We don’t only work for children, we work with them."
Wonderseekers is on a mission to help young people change the world for the better.
It has big ambitions to equip them with the skills and knowledge to play a part in tackling the world’s climate issues, overcoming social and economic barriers to enable all children to discover science.
NOSY is one of the charity’s Curiosity Collective partners, a scheme giving businesses a way of pledging money to support its mission.
The initiative helps Wonderseekers’ provide educational science and nature experiences, to empower children to take action against climate change and biodiversity loss.
"Children are not just benefiting from the work being done by Wonderseekers, they are helping us to shape it too," said Charlotte Mercer, Director of Communications at Wonderseekers.
"Over the last year, we’ve developed co-working practices with children to ensure their voices are embedded in our operations.
Our purpose is to find fun and educational ways to engage and excite young people in science, and who better to help us do that than the children."
Wonderseekers has a Young Steering Group and Young Design Panel, made up of children aged six to 11. They offer advice on scientific topics, share ideas about the charity’s activities and projects and provide feedback about their own experiences.
Recently, the Young Design Panel completed a nine-month project combining science and art to help build understanding of how they feel about the effects of climate change and biodiversity loss, with the aim of encouraging them to take action.
Bella, 12, was among those to take part.
"Having the opportunity to work with scientists and experts made me feel special and like my ideas and opinions do matter," she said.
Placing children at the heart of its work is crucial to the impact the charity is able to make. And with more big plans in the pipeline, this is an exciting time to get involved.
"We want to embed these experiences into children’s lives from an early age, so when they become teenagers, they have the knowledge and skills to feel empowered to take action in response to these global challenges," said Charlotte.
"The Curiosity Collective supports this vital work, and we would absolutely love the opportunity to hear from other like-minded businesses who want to help us."
