Our third "Rubbish Networking" of the year focused on Newport’s Victoria Recreation Ground.
19 September, 2024
Our efforts to stop litter from spoiling the Island’s beautiful open spaces continued with our latest Rubbish Networking event. This was the third one of the year - our ninth in total - and we were delighted to again be joined by helpers, keen to be part of the tidy up.
Thanks to Betapak for providing the kit so we could head out armed with bin bags and litter pickers, enabling us to cover the entire park and collect as much as possible over the course of the morning. We finished up with ten bags of rubbish!
The purpose of these events is not just to simply pick up rubbish. Protecting and enhancing our environment is at the heart of our work and it will always be important for us to lead the way in doing all we can to help keep the Island litter free.
But the commitment of others to get involved is just as satisfying. The conversations we have and the connections we make are really important. They help us shape the behaviour of others, steering their thoughts to how we consider making sustainability a priority.
It might start as simple as collecting litter but it can lead to so much more. We also have lots of fun and it’s a good opportunity for us all to step away from the day job for a few hours, knowing we are doing something really worthwhile. We live in a world where 'growth at all costs' doesn't align with a sustainable future. Instead, we look at the impact we have on the prosperity of people as a key benchmark of our success.
The East Cowes community came out in force to help tidy up the town recently, in the latest installment of our Rubbish Networking event.
When numbers to Cowes Harbour Commission’s AGM declined, action was needed to conserve the communication. We were pleased to help.
