We Are Certified Carbon Literate

Celebrating the team becoming Carbon Literate, increasing environmental knowledge and creating personal pledges to reduce carbon emissions.

The Carbon Literacy Project is a programme that offers certification to individuals, trainers and organisations, showcasing that they have awareness of carbon costs and its impact in everyday activities. The certification process also requires each individual to list actions to reduce carbon emissions both as individuals as well as a wider audience.

There are now over 100,000 citizens certified!

The programme was recognised by the UN at COP21, where it was awarded as a TAP100, one of 100 worldwide Transformative Action Programs.

Earlier this year, our team carried out Carbon Literacy training through Peak Governance, the training course covered:

  • The science behind climate change
  • Social equity & climate change
  • What you can do to act on climate change
  • Strategies and skills for communicating action on climate change

There was a lot to digest during the 1 day course, Billy our trainer was very knowledgeable and would answer the teams questions when they arise. The team came out with a wider understanding on the topic and came together to discuss actions that could be taken.

Our whole team is now certified as Carbon Literate.

After the training, the team spent some time filling in their assessments before sending them off to be audited by the Carbon Literacy Project. After 3 weeks of waiting, every team member came back with passing the certification and being award with a Carbon Certified Certificate.

Our colleague, Richard Brimson, explains:

“Training to become carbon literate was an eye opening exercise. I was not expecting to learn as much as I did. Which goes to show how invaluable continuous development is in the sustainability space. My pledges have had me reflecting on very simple day-to-day tasks, but also wider strategic decisions around carbon reduction.”

As a business who focuses on people and the planet, it is really important for us to ensure the whole team is up to date with understanding the environmental and social impact, especially when information is constantly being updated.
