Forging a positive partnership through 1% for the Planet

For the last two years, we have been supporting the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, as part of the 1% for the Planet initiative.

We recently met with Kate and Jamie from the charity to hear about their experiences of the partnership.

"Working with NOSY over the last two years has helped us to connect with our local communities around conservation, protecting wildlife and natural habitats, in a way that would not have been possible otherwise,” said Kate Garnham, the charity’s senior communications officer.

"Raising awareness of our core objectives is becoming increasingly important but we’re in a very challenging time across the charity sector. To be able to work with NOSY to create compelling video and photography, helping us elevate the quality of our messaging and storytelling, gives us an opportunity to have more impact.

"We can feel how much the NOSY team values our work and we’re just really pleased to partner with them through this scheme.”

When NOSY joined 1% for the Planet, we collectively chose to support the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, feeling our ambitions to protect the environment aligned with their mission.

Our donation has included the creation of a video highlighting the importance of wildlife conservation, with plans to share a new one early next year.

As well as our financial and service contributions, the team has also volunteered to remove Himalayan balsam from the Eastern Yar. This is an invasive species and if it’s not kept under control, it can threaten ecosystems.

"We really enjoyed welcoming the team into our world and it was great for them to get involved and help us with this work,” said Jamie, Charity Director.

"While it’s a very attractive plant, Himalayan balsam outcompetes native flora and it’s really important we eradicate it, so having everyone from NOSY along to lend a hand was fantastic.

"And by having a local business involved with us, it gives another chance to promote  conversations about our work, which gives us more good opportunities to raise awareness.”

Last year, NOSY contributed a total of £6,250 towards helping the trust safeguard local wildlife and preserving natural habitats, which was verified by 1% for the Planet. We anticipate we will match that contribution this year too.

If you are interested in joining 1% for the Planet, we would be delighted to refer you as a new member.
