Life can be hard, but accessing support shouldn’t be

NOSY was approached by the Youth Trust to rebrand and redesign its website to make it more accessible to all, and to improve the overall user experience and content infrastructure.

This was facilitated by holding a young people’s opinions workshop with attendees of the Youth Trust to gauge the feedback and understanding of how the website is used, by those who are using it. Capturing thoughts and feelings was the intention, regardless of opinion to ensure there was no bias.

The Isle of Wight Youth Trust is an independent charity that is dedicated to supporting the well-being and mental health of young Islanders (completely free for any young person aged 4-25)  and their families. This is achieved by ‘providing youth-led wellbeing and therapeutic support when it’s needed to empower young people to face life’s challenges’.

Having carried out research within our dedicated workshop the main points which came out of that research into the current website and how it worked were:

  • The website had been used as research into the Youth Trust but had minimal use since engagement with the service.
  • There was too much content which was overwhelming particularly for those with bad mental health and dyslexia.
  • Users were unaware that there was a blog.
  • Young people see the need for crisis information with a map, phone number, and clear signposting as crucial.

Taking all of these points into consideration, NOSY created a far more user-friendly website with clear signposting to crucial services, telephone numbers, and email addresses. With bright colours and short, clear statements that service users can easily understand, the website, whilst simple, contains all of the information that is necessary for a referral.

Equally, for fundraising, donating, or finding out more about the charity, navigating the website is simple and avoids overloading the user with information, setting it out in a clear and concise way. The overall effect is a user-friendly, informative, easily accessible website with advice and downloadable resources.
