Designing and building a careers platform that helps students explore real roles and make informed decisions about their future.
Key outcome
Delivered a scalable careers platform that connects students with real roles, supports ongoing content growth, and simplifies how opportunities are explored.

01 - THE CHALLENGE
Ormiston Academies Trust needed a way to expose students to career paths they may not have considered.
Existing resources were often difficult to navigate, overly generic, or disconnected from real-world outcomes. For many students, careers advice lacked clarity and relevance.
The platform needed to feel accessible, intuitive and grounded in reality, while working for a wide audience including students, teachers, parents and employers.

02 - THE APPROACH
The focus was on making careers tangible.
Rather than presenting abstract pathways, the platform was built around real people in real roles. Video content became central to the experience, helping students understand what different careers actually look like in practice.
User journeys were designed to reduce friction and encourage exploration, with clear structure and fast access to relevant content.
The platform was designed for long-term use, enabling OAT to manage and expand content without relying on ongoing development support.

03 - THE OUTPUT
A mobile-first careers platform designed to make exploration simple and engaging.
The interface allows students to quickly find and compare career paths, save options, and revisit them later. Content is structured around individual roles, supported by video and clear summaries.
Built on WordPress with a custom theme, the platform gives OAT full control over content management. New careers can be added easily, ensuring the platform remains relevant over time.
An integrated mapping feature allows users to explore opportunities geographically, adding another layer of context to career discovery.
The platform launched with an initial catalogue of 37 career destinations.
04 - THE RESULT
The platform created a more accessible and engaging way for students to explore their future options.
By focusing on real roles and clear navigation, it helped bridge the gap between education and employment, giving students a better understanding of what different paths involve.
For OAT, the result was a scalable, easy-to-manage platform that can continue to grow alongside their curriculum and careers programme.
