Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT) is one of the largest not-for-profit multi-academy trusts in England, educating over 30,000 pupils. NOSY was approached by OAT with the challenge of developing a new ‘careers portal’. The aim was to inspire and educate students about careers they may not have thought of before.
We knew that the most authentic way to inspire a student will be to show them what the end result looks like. The portal had to contain real people, in real jobs. We collaborated with Centreline Films, where they were commissioned by OAT to produce a series of videos for each career. We set out to research what other career portals were doing. Specifically analysing user interactions, usage of branding and the user journey.
A performant, mobile-first interface to showcase career opportunities. We designed a modern and clean-looking homepage, subpages, and career pages – allowing the students to easily search and reach their desired career within a couple of clicks. Users can create shortlists of their favourites and email themselves summaries, which they can use at a later date.
The portal was developed in WordPress, with a custom theme and an easy-to-navigate admin dashboard (allowing OAT to keep adding new careers in the future without friction). Also featuring an innovative implementation of Google Map APIs to display career opportunities geographically.
The full portal was launched in November 2021 with an initial catalogue of 37 career destinations for learners to discover.
